3 Things a Plumber Wont Tell You A Little Information You Should Know
In the world of plumbing you have the good, the bad, and the uninformed. The uninformed was where I spent most of my time at until I got educated on plumbing matters. Hopefully this article will save you from my frustrated and challenging experiences.

In this article we will examine 3 things a plumber will not tell you.

Number 1: A plumber can be stumped and may not know first hand how to install a new fixture. We live in a society were its frowned upon to not know something and this fact rings true even in the world of plumbing and plumbing problems.

At times even the most experienced licensed plumber may not be familiar with a certain brand of fixture. If you have a toilet from Romania or a fixture from Paris he or she may have some trouble installing it. It does not mean there incompetent it just means they have little experience with the brand and may have to get educated on it.

It's a good idea to inform the plumber of the brand and fixture and ask do they have experience installing it. Plumbers are paid by the hour and its your dime they are spending so a simple question up front can save you both time and money.

Number 2: When you have a plumbing emergency you are usually 12th in line.

If you are in an emergency don't expect a good plumbing company to come rushing through to fix your problem. If they are good they are usually in high demand and unfortunately this means you will have to wait.

Depending on the emergency waiting may be the best option. I know this sounds crazy but with so many bad plumbers or journeymen posing as plumbers your best option is to wait. Look at the blueprints of your home to find the shut of valve of the area your having the emergency at. If all else fails turn the water off for your entire house.

Number 3: You can ask to order the part your self. Many times a plumber says I have to order a special part to fix this particular problem. This is where the price gauging can begin. If he or she is unscrupulous they may not only over charge for the part(s) they may also put in a host of hidden charges trip costs, shipping etc.

To keep them honest ask them what the parts and state you can purchase them yourself. If you don't want to do that then at least ask them what the parts are to do your own research.
